The principle
Halftone is the printing technique that reproduces images using dots of varying size. Up close, you see dots; from a distance, you see an image. Enlarging or exaggerating halftone patterns turns a technical process into a graphic style, connecting your work to the history of print.
Objective. Use halftone as both a technique and an aesthetic.
The brief
Design a poster for a printmaking workshop using an exaggerated halftone image.
Constraints
- The main image must be a visible halftone
- Dots should be large enough to see from a normal viewing distance
- One colour of dots plus paper colour
- Use your own image or a licensed one
You're done when
- A visible, intentional halftone treatment
- The image is still recognisable
- A strong overall graphic quality
Stretch goal
Overlay two halftone screens in different colours at different angles.
