The principle
Art direction is the translation of an idea into a cohesive visual world: palette, type, image, tone and texture working together. A film poster must convey genre, mood and story in a single frame, without giving away the plot. It is a promise of an experience.
Objective. Translate a story into a single, cohesive visual direction.
The brief
Write a one-sentence synopsis for an imaginary film, then design its theatrical poster.
Constraints
- Write the synopsis first
- The genre must be clear without reading the tagline
- Include a title, tagline and a credit block
You're done when
- A clear genre and mood
- A cohesive visual world
- Professional film poster conventions
Stretch goal
Design a teaser poster for the same film that reveals even less.
