The principle
Contemporary experimental design draws on everything before it — Swiss grids, postmodern layering, Brutalist rawness — and adds new tools: variable fonts, generative systems, 3D software and code. Studios around the world push the boundaries of form, often blurring design and art.
Objective. Research contemporary experimental design and make your own contribution.
The brief
Research three contemporary studios whose work excites you, identify a shared principle, and design an original poster for a design talk using it.
Constraints
- Do not reproduce or trace an existing poster — use the principles, not the artefacts
- Identify and write down one shared principle
- Use at least one contemporary tool or technique
You're done when
- Grounded in genuine research
- Original work that applies a principle
- A contemporary feel
Stretch goal
Write a one-paragraph manifesto for a movement that does not exist yet and design its first poster.
