The principle
The Bauhaus (1919–1933) was a German school that united art, craft and technology. Its designers favoured geometric forms, primary colours, sans serif type and asymmetric layouts — not as decoration, but as a rational, universal language. Function came first, and beauty followed from honest construction.
Objective. Apply Bauhaus principles to a contemporary subject.
The brief
Design a poster for a modern furniture store opening using Bauhaus principles.
Constraints
- Do not reproduce or trace an existing poster — use the principles, not the artefacts
- Primary colours plus black and white
- Geometric forms and sans serif type
- An asymmetric layout
You're done when
- Clearly applies Bauhaus principles
- An original composition
- A contemporary subject
Stretch goal
Read a short text by a Bauhaus teacher (Moholy-Nagy, Albers or Bayer) and reference an idea from it.
