The principle
Symbols compress complex ideas into simple forms. A dove, a raised fist, a red cross — each carries centuries of meaning. Designing with symbols means understanding what they already mean to your audience and whether you want to reinforce, twist or reinvent that meaning.
Objective. Use or create a symbol that communicates instantly.
The brief
Design a poster for a peace vigil using a single symbol — existing or newly designed.
Constraints
- One symbol as the main image
- Maximum two colours
- Minimal supporting text
- Be respectful of the symbol’s cultural meaning
You're done when
- A strong central symbol
- An immediate message
- Thoughtful, respectful use of meaning
Stretch goal
Design a brand-new symbol for an emotion that does not have one.
