The principle
A duotone maps the darks and lights of an image to two colours. It unifies photographs from different sources, creates mood and turns ordinary images into branded graphics. The choice of the two colours — their contrast and temperature — changes everything about how the image feels.
Objective. Use colour mapping to give photography a strong mood.
The brief
Design a poster for a city’s night food market using a duotone image.
Constraints
- One photograph rendered as a duotone
- The two duotone colours must be the only colours on the poster
- Use your own or a licensed image
You're done when
- A clean, effective duotone
- Colours suited to the subject
- Legible typography
Stretch goal
Make a set of three duotones with three different colour pairs and choose the strongest.
