The principle
Negative space can carry an image. Think of the arrow hidden in the FedEx logo or the faces in Rubin’s vase. When positive shapes are arranged so that the space between them forms a second image, the viewer experiences a moment of discovery — and remembers the poster because of it.
Objective. Use negative space to create a hidden or secondary image.
The brief
Design a poster for an animal rescue charity where an animal is formed by negative space.
Constraints
- The animal must be formed by negative space, not drawn directly
- Maximum two colours
- Simple, solid shapes
You're done when
- A recognisable image formed by negative space
- A clean, reduced composition
- A moment of discovery for the viewer
Stretch goal
Hide a second image within the positive shapes as well.
