The principle
Some of the most interesting design problems are about things that have no visual form: sound, time, smell, silence, a wireless signal. Visualising the invisible requires invention. You must create a visual language for something that has none.
Objective. Invent a visual language for something without a visual form.
The brief
Design a poster for a festival of sound art that visualises sound without using speakers, headphones or musical notes.
Constraints
- No literal sound icons — no speakers, notes or headphones
- Invent a visual system for sound
- Maximum three colours
You're done when
- An original visual language
- An evocative sense of the subject
- No literal icons
Stretch goal
Visualise the sound of a specific place, such as a subway station at rush hour.
